About Horse Rider's Mechanic Workbook 1: Your Position

Many common horse riding problems, including pain and discomfort when riding, can be attributed to poor rider position. Often riders are not even aware of what is happening to various parts of their body when they are riding. Improving your position is the key to improving your riding. It is of key importance because without addressing the fundamental issues, you cannot obtain an ‘independent seat’.

This book looks at each part of your body in great detail, starting with your feet and working upwards through your ankles, knees and hips. It then looks at your torso, arms, hands and head. Each chapter details what each of these parts of your body should be doing and what you can do to fix any problems you have with them. It is a step by step guide which allows you to fix your own position problems.

After reading this book, you will have a greater understanding of what is happening to the various parts of your body when you ride and why. You will then be able to continue to improve your position, your seat and your riding in general.

This book also provides instructors, riding coaches and trainers with lots of valuable rider position tips for teaching clients. You cannot afford to miss out on this great opportunity to learn!

"What a simple way to improve balance, I now teach this method to all of my students, from beginners to advanced."

Fiona Bowles (Canada)

"These books are very easy to follow and have saved me money. My own instructor is great but she does not cover these fundamental basics. Thank you Jane for making it so easy to improve my riding!"

Jan Coombs (UK)

"What an amazing wonderful woman, to have so much knowledge and be able to impart it to the rider in such a small amount of time. To see a rider ask about trot extensions (the way we were generally taught was to sit down hard and push with your seat) with her help the rider accomplished the extended trot within a few minutes, happy well rounded horse and a beaming rider."

Tracey (Aus)

"Jane has revolutionised my riding, plus many others that have attended clinics at my property 'The Bibi Ranch'. She just has such a great way of explaining to riders, both inexperienced and advanced alike. I call her my horsey hero and I cannot praise her enough."

Bibi Liati (AUS)

"So much of what is written about riding overcomplicates the subject - your information is refreshing to say the least!"

Howard (UK)

"The Horse Rider's Mechanic System has made a huge difference to my relationship with my horse Milly. I have ridden all my life but Jane showed me how to fix some problems that were blocking our progression."

Linda Galpin (UK)

"The Equiculture approach to everything horsey - from how you manage your horses to how you ride - has been a revelation for me. My horses have benefited so much. My partner also loves this approach and is now more involved in our improved horse 'lifestyle'."

Julie Spencer USA

"I have to tell you that the article you wrote on 'The Independent Seat' is truly amazing! Maybe it is because I am wanting that material and have been searching online and haven't come across anything that comes within cooee of your article...and maybe it is just brilliant in its own right?! Thanks - I am working on it and appreciate your writing from such an understanding angle."

Jane Butler (Aus)

"I have to tell you - I nearly did not buy these books (and the video series that came out later) what a mistake that would have been! I thought they were going to be 'same old - same old' but how wrong I was. Thank you Jane for giving me my (riding) life back!"

Louise Smithy (USA)

"Jane - you have a knack of making things make sense, and getting that across to your students - I wish more people could teach as you do."

Jill Warren (Aus)

"What I love most about The Horse Rider's Mechanic System of riding (and teaching) is that it breaks what can be complex issues down into bite sized pieces and teaches you step by step what you really need to know."

Kitty Jones (USA)

About Horse Rider's Mechanic Workbook 2: Your Balance

Without good balance, you cannot ride to the best of your ability. After improving your position (the subject of the first book in this series), improving your balance will lead to you becoming a more secure and therefore confident rider. Improving your balance is the key to further improving your riding. Most riders need help with this area of their riding life, yet it is not a commonly taught subject.

This book contains several lessons for each of the three paces, walk, trot and canter. It builds on Horse Rider’s Mechanic Workbook 1: Your Position, teaching you how to implement your now improved position and become a safer and more secure rider.

The lessons allow you to improve at your own pace, in your own time. They will compliment any instruction you are currently receiving because they concentrate on issues that are generally not covered by most instructors.

This book also provides instructors, riding coaches and trainers with lots of valuable tips for teaching clients how to improve their balance. You cannot afford to miss out on this great opportunity to learn!

About The Horse Rider's Mechanic

My teaching system has developed over many years. I have always been interested in how to improve the rider so that they can help their horse. I have had many, many influences over the years and I have taught riders of various levels - from complete beginners to very experienced competition riders.

I particularly enjoy teaching people who have lost confidence, people who are returning to riding after a long break and people who have physical issues that need to be worked around.

I believe that all learning should be enjoyable and fun. As much as is possible, learning to ride - or improving your riding - should not be complicated. My aim is to always explain what I mean in the simplest way possible.

Please take the time to read the testimonials on this page – these are just a sample of what I have received over the years.

I hope you let me help you in your quest to ride as well as you can.
